ENV 24: Sustainable Practices for Open Design

This presentation evaluates the challenges of open design, sustainable building practices and the importance of the building code requirements for fire and life safety. Discover various solutions through case studies, LEED guidelines, and the building code requirements for open design. Explore opportunities to implement open design for building energy efficiency, clean energy, and enhanced atmosphere in new and adaptive reuse projects. This course is valid for 1.0 AIA credit, HSW certificate and 1 CE GBCI credit.

The seminar covers:

  1. Familiarize attendees with leading green building initiative guidelines such as LEED, U.S Green Building Council and Living Building Challenge. Understand
    the various levels of LEED credits and the certification process.
  2. Participants will discover the benefits and incentives of sustainable design practices i.e. daylighting, adaptive reuse while evaluating the importance of fire
    and life safety with alternative sustainable solutions.
  3. Attendees will understand how opening protectives can reduce building emissions with R values and minimize mechanical systems for sustainable design
  4. Lastly, we will see how open design along with material content can have a direct impact on a projects LEED credits.
